The Holocaust Exhibit reception & lecture will include remarks by Rabbi Laurie Coskey, and a lecture by Professor Susanne Hillman, Ph.D., from UC San Diego talking about “What happened, happened: Reflections on Genocide, Unheroic Survival, and Witness Testimony” and Ben Midler, Holocaust survivor.

-Rabbi Laurie Coskey is the Executive Director of the Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice. The ICWJ represents clergy, churches, mosques, synagogues, faith and justice organizations, and people of faith around San Diego who, called by their respective religious traditions, work for justice and stand up for the poor and marginalized

-Susanne Hillman, Ph.D. is an author and history professor at UC San Diego. She is also Program Coordinator of the Holocaust Living History Workshop at UCSD which came about to familiarize students and the community with the Visual History Archive of the Shoah Foundation Institute. Through the Workshop, Hillman says, she teaches people to use the archive and publicizes it on campus and in the community.

-Born in 1929, Ben Midler, now 83, was 10 when Germany declared war on Poland, changing his world forever. After the Nazis invaded Bialyostok, Poland, he was forced into the ghetto; they were separated from his family, who remained behind in a bunker. He never saw them again. Mr. Midler survived a series of concentration camps, a death march, typhus, starvation, freezing conditions and unimaginable indignities — eventually to be liberated.
